Julia Sterling was born in London, and was a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music.
She went on to study with Terence Beckles at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and attained an A.G.S.M. with distinction in 1973.
Since then, she he has taught in many private and state schools, to all ages and abilities. Her pupils at The Abbey in Woodbridge, Suffolk, where she now teaches, inspired the writing of the Piano Party Series.
